Hi. We are your hosts Carol and Richard Devine and we have resided in our old home in the heart of Dunedin City for the past 22 years. As Richard hails from Ayr in Scotland, (home of Robbie Burns), we chose to name our new venture 'Bard House' after the famous Scots Bard.
Built as a family residence in 1907, we consider Bard House all the more special for the fact it is still functioning brilliantly as a home today. We enjoy sharing our special piece of Dunedin history with guests and in doing so we're preserving the property and showcasing the incredible craftsmanship so typical of many of our City's glorious early homes.
We have always had a great love for animals and our Labrador ‘Boz’ is a big part of our lives. For those travellers who are missing their pets, Boz will happily fill the need. However, if you are not confident with a dog, we’ll make sure he does not bother you at all. We are a member of the Bed & Breakfast Association New Zealand. This means we are quality assessed and meet the high standards set by this Association. Bard House is LGBT+ friendly.
We aim to have everyone enjoy true southern kiwi hospitality, to leave with great memories of their stay in Dunedin and hopefully return again some day.
See why we choose to live in one of the greatest small cities on the planet...
